Job Summary:

The Zuscik Laboratory (PI Michael Zuscik) has openings for 2 full-time Post-Doctoral Fellow positions.  These positions provide an opportunity for continued training in musculoskeletal research with a specific focus on investigating the gut microbiome-joint axis in the context of Osteoarthritis, as well as microbiome impacts on the musculoskeletal system.  The Zuscik Laboratory is a team of researchers with diverse research interests, located within the Department of Orthopedics at the University of Rochester on the Anschutz Medical Campus.  These positions require highly motivated self-starters who are willing to learn and able to work effectively independently and as contributing team members. The ideal candidates will be experienced in osteoarthritis, musculoskeletal biology, and gut microbiome with a track record of publications supporting experience in these areas.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analysis and dissemination of results related to ongoing and new projects within the laboratory
    • Manuscript development and publication
    • Scientific abstract presentation at national/international conferences
  • Mentorship and professional development of younger lab members
  • Development of new projects related to osteoarthritis, musculoskeletal biology, and gut microbiome
  • Development of competitive applications for extramural grant funds
  • Implementation of lab initiatives/new research directions with the lab director

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

A PhD and/or MD degree with research experience in one or more of the following areas:  osteoarthritis; musculoskeletal biology; gut microbiome.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience studying the gut microbiome
  • Experience working in preclinical animal models
  • Experience working with a multidisciplinary team to conduct clinically relevant research

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion
  • Knowledge of basic musculoskeletal biology
  • Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information

    Anticipated Pay Range:

    The starting salary range (or hiring range ) for these positions have been established; the current HIRING RANGE:

    $56,484-$59,592 (NIH range for postdocs between Level 0 and Level 3)

    The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. These positions are not eligible for overtime compensation unless classified as non-exempt.
