Nurse Aide Instructor

Job Description

Responsibilities: Part-time Instructor to teach and oversee the Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) training course at Messiah Lifeways at least four times a year (120 hours per course).

Qualifications:

1. Minimum of Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing

2. Hold a current, unrestricted license as a registered nurse in Pennsylvania

3. Two or more years of clinical nursing practice within the last five years with a least one year experience in a long-term care facility*

4. Instructor experience preferred

5. Current Basic Life Support Certification

*Definition: Long-term care facility – an institution licensed by the Department of Health as a long-term care facility. This includes a distinct unit of a hospital that possesses a separate license by the Department of Health (transitional care or skilled care unit) and geriatric units at a Veterans Administration institution. This does not include the following: institutions that provide care for the chronically disabled or mentally challenged, geriatric psychiatry, hospice care, home care, and general medical units in a hospital

Skills and Characteristics:

1. Theoretical knowledge and clinical expertise with patients in long-term care

2. Evidence of knowledge of regulations that guide and direct certified nurse’s aide training programs

3. Evidence of ability to teach effectively

4. Knowledge of curriculum development, implementation and evaluation as it applies to teaching nurse aide students

5. Knowledge of principles and methods of adult education

6. Computer proficiency in PC

7. Strong organizational, analytical and problem solving skills

8. Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills

9. Reliable to carry out responsibilities in a timely and meticulous manner

10. Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive student issues

11. Ability to make timely decisions appropriate to the situation, circumstances, and facts at hand

12. Ability to provide timely feedback, support and encouragement to students

13. Ability to safeguard sensitive or confidential information from intentional or unintentional disclosure

14. Ability to identify opportunities to improve present programs and/or operations

15. Ability to maintain a current inventory of equipment and supplies, ensure that equipment is in proper working order and determine future equipment and supply needs in accordance with Department of Health regulations.

16. Essential physical competencies include extended sitting, standing and walking daily, ability to grasp, hold, push, and/or pull, ability to bend or squat, moving quickly in response to an emergency using upper body movements, ability to reach, carry, move and/or lift approx 25 lbs. and/or occasionally push or pull objects on a rolling cart up to approx. 50 lbs.

17. Ability to perform assigned responsibilities, duties and tasks according to established practices

18. Ability to demonstrate, use and maintain equipment, tools and materials in a safe and correct manner

19. Ability to record and maintain proper records and to meet deadlines for reports and other required paperwork utilizing Microsoft Office
