Summary

The University of Michigan Health, Emergency Management Operations is seeking an Emergency Management Specialist. The candidate for this position will possess education, experience, and training in the field of emergency management. This position will be responsible for the management, performance, and completion of moderate to complex projects to improve emergency preparedness within clinical and non-clinical departments. This position will be responsible for creating and managing project plans, standard operating procedures, assembling project teams, assigning responsibilities, and identifying resources for completion. This position will be familiar with project objectives, as well as the role and function of each team and team members to effectively coordinate activities.  This position will be expected to maintain strategic partnerships both internally and externally and engage with UMH faculty, staff, local, state, and federal partners to further enhance preparedness efforts of the health system.   This position will report to the EH&S Manager and Director for Safety and Emergency Management Operations and participate as a constructive team member with all staff in the department.

Responsibilities*

• Lead and provide project management support for various clinical and non-clinical teams  

• Lead and participate in emergency drills and exercises 

• Document exercises and actual events in standardized format 

• Prepare and update plans, policies and procedures 

• Participate in risk assessments and analysis for annual hazardous vulnerability analysis (HVA) 

• Develop, review, and maintain departmental Continuity of Operations Plans (COOP).  

• Participate in the creation of annual reports, presentations to senior leaders, and collaborate with emergency management partners 

• Participate in strategic planning for the emergency management program  

• Participate in emergency management committees (internal/external as delegated) 

• Participate in required training and conferences 

• Collaborate with UM Division of Public Safety and Security-Emergency Management 

• Other duties as assigned 

Required Qualifications*

• Bachelor’s degree in Emergency Management, Homeland Security, Project Management, or related field 

• 2-4 years of related experience

• Experience collaborating with a diverse population 

• Organizational, interpersonal, public speaking and written communication skills 

• Demonstrated ability to generate quality work and handle a fast-paced work environment, where confidentiality and timeliness is critical 

• Ability to analyze complex issues and translate into clear and concise plans and/or reports 

• Demonstrated experience in the design, facilitation and evaluation of drills and exercises, including tabletop, functional and full scale.   

• Completion of NIMS training (IS-100, 200, 300, 400,700, 800) 

• Proficient in MS platforms (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams) and other software as appropriate 

• Ability to walk/ travel between physical UMH locations and work flexible hours as needed.

Work Schedule

In general, work hours are M-F daytime hours, 7:00 am - 5:00 pm, with some flexibility allowed. Hours will vary depending on the work. Additional work hours maybe required during nights, early mornings, and weekends. Current schedule is hybrid remote work and in office work.

Background Screening
