Job Summary:

Ford Lab in the Department of Pharmacology on CU Anschutz Medical Campus has an opening for a Full-Time Research Services Professional. The Ford lab is interested in studying the parallels between normal development and tumor progression, with a focus on breast cancer, brain cancers, and pediatric sarcomas. Our group seeks highly motivated and independent individuals to join our efforts investigating anti-tumor immune responses in breast cancer and melanoma, with projects focused on the role of the developmental transcriptional co-activators and phosphatases, the EYA proteins, in metastasis, and on identifying gene targets that impact NK cell-mediated immunosurveillance. Our investigation employs a combination of approaches including cell culture, molecular techniques, and in vivo mouse models.

Entry Laboratory Science Professionals perform duties in an experimental lab, or wet lab, and handle a variety of chemicals and/or potential “wet” hazards, as well as in an animal research facility where they are expected to work with mice. Entry Laboratory Science Professionals perform duties in laboratories where chemicals, drugs, or other materials or biological matters are tested and analyzed.

The primary duties of this position will be to support lab members in performing experiments for tumor immunology projects and publications. This position is mainly focused on experimental lab duties as they contribute to the progress of scientific projects. This position will also include troubleshooting, analyzing data, reading journal articles, drawing scientific conclusions, designing experiments, and occasionally delivering research presentations in the format of a PowerPoint presentation or poster.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with and support Principal Investigators (PI) and other stakeholders with laboratory and research functions.
  • Utilize a variety of laboratory techniques required for research projects.
  • Perform experiments and tabulate and analyze research.
  • Perform pre-analytical, analytical and post analytical test process and evaluate results produced.
  • Prepare lab for daily operations, including stocking materials, equipment, safety, cleanliness, and related areas.
  • Provide animal care related to research studies, as necessary.
  • Provide support researching issues and developing recommendations to resolve process, unit, and related issues.

We work closely with other groups on campus, meeting monthly with collaborators in the biochemistry department and monthly in a joint lab meeting that includes 7 other cancer-focused labs. The campus also provides opportunities to learn about research from other institutions through regular seminars and invited speakers.

We are a close knit group of students, postdoctoral fellows and research specialists who collaborate with one another to help drive independent research projects. We meet weekly to give feedback on each other’s studies and celebrate lab successes often with good food and lab outings. Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.
  • At least one (1) year of experience in wet lab bench research in related field or wet lab experience through undergraduate coursework.
  • Previous experience with cell culture, mouse work, and cloning.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of basic laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.
  • Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology medical terminology.
  • Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information.

    Anticipated Pay Range:

    The starting salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established as $40,280 - $50,000.

    The above hiring range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation depending on the level.
