Job Summary:

Nature of Work:

The Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Colorado, Anschutz Medical Campus, seeks a full-time (1.0 FTE) Postdoctoral Fellow to carry out research in the areas of retinal developmental biology and regenerative medicine. The successful candidate will join the Brzezinski Lab, which is part of CellSight, the Ocular Stem Cell and Regeneration Program in the Department of Ophthalmology, which encompases a cross-disciplinary team of investigators working in a highly collaborative environment with the common goal of developing novel treatments for ocular diseases. The postdoctoral fellow will lead research projects that investigate the mechanisms of mammalian retinal development and potential therapeutic applications of their findings.

Main responsibilities include developing and carrying out research projects, publishing and communicating research results, and assisting with the training and mentoring of students and technicians. There is no direct patient care or contact involved in this position.

The postdoctoral fellow will report to Joseph Brzezinski, PhD. He will be responsible for providing the postdoctoral fellow with mentorship and relevant training and project management direction.

Examples of Work Performed

The responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Designing and planning research projects.
  • Performing developmental genetics experiments using mammalian (mouse/human) retinal tissues.
  • Performing routine molecular biological techniques.
  • Performing histology and confocal microscopy of retinal tissues.
  • Culturing cells, including induced pluripotent stem cells
  • Analyzing and interpreting research results.
  • Maintaining effective communication with the investigator and other team members
  • Keeping an organized record of research experiments and results.
  • Assisting in the training and mentoring of students and technicians.
  • Preparing manuscripts for publication in scientific journals.
  • Participating in lab meetings and attending scientific seminars and conferences.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Ph.D. in a relevant biomedical science discipline

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Deep experience with confocal microscopy and longitudinal imaging
  • Prior experience investigating central nervous system development
  • Prior experience with cell culture, including growing induced pluripotent stem cells
  • Experience with cell, developmental, and molecular biology techniques

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    Anticipated Pay Range:

    The starting salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established at $56,684

    The above hiring range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation depending on the level.
