Scope of Position
The team member in this role is a high-energy, dynamic, data-informed academic leader who brings a record of career program development with the skill to lead faculty and non-faculty team members in establishing and achieving common goals that advance Lewis and Clark Community College’s four key directions.

The position requires focus, commitment and expertise in encouraging equity, student academic success, persistence, and completion. Experience working with business and industry to develop programs responsive to their workforce need is an important aspect of this team members acumen. The work to strengthen alignment between business and industry training with career and program curriculum and expertise is important. Further, experience in grant writing, grant management, resource planning and managing and conducting annual course-level, general education, and program-level assessment is essential.

The Dean contributes to the overall leadership of the college, as well as the accreditation requirements of all externally accredited programs. Ensure compliance with program, state and regional accreditation. Proactively support curriculum innovations in programs and methods of delivery to maintain leading edge status.

Another aspect to this role is having knowledge and understating of competency-based education (CBE) as it relates to guiding and supporting the development of new pathways and alternative access options for prospective and current students.

Key Measurable Expectations
  • Represent and promote the College both internally and externally;
  • Provide academic leadership with awareness of trends and challenges in community college education;
  • Manage the academic programs and faculty and support staff in the Health Sciences, Math and Science, and Technology divisions, ensuring quality for all students;
  • Provides leadership in the selection and use of instructional technology;
  • Markets programs and services and with faculty monitors enrollment/use/satisfaction/learning success/graduation trends in order to provide guidance and recommendations to advance program growth and sustainability;
  • Foster the recruitment and retention of students and provide leadership to students in academic endeavors and co-curricular activities;
  • Initiate, develop, and manage grant applications and funded projects in concert with the grant manager and appropriate non-faculty/faculty team members;
  • Monitor faculty overload hours; aiming to best manage expectations outlined in both state retirement policy and the faculty agreement;
  • Supervises and evaluates full- and part-time faculty and non-faculty team members in their Divisions;
  • Works with program coordinators and division assistants to develop instructional schedules and staffing;
  • Encourages and supports faculty and staff development activities;
  • Coordinates the recruitment and selection of full-time faculty and non-faculty team members for the division with appropriate faculty/non-faculty and the Human Resources Office;
  • Participate in tenure decision processes for faculty and communicate decisions to division faculty;
  • Investigate and resolve student complaints and grievances in collaboration with appropriate faculty and administrative officers;
  • Develop, support, and monitor short- and long-range goals, strategic plans and program assessment in the division;
  • Provide administrative support for assigned committees and participation on campus mover teams;
  • Develop and maintain close working relationships with other departments and divisions within the college;
  • Develop and maintain close working relationship with employers, other educational organizations, clinical sites, governmental and community agencies where appropriate;
  • Plan, develop and implement articulation and cooperative agreements with other educational institutions including school districts, other community colleges, and transfer colleges and universities;
  • Ensure compliance with regional and state college and program-level accreditation standards as well as appropriate state regulations, where applicable;
  • Ensure knowledge of the college mission, vision, and purposes and compliance with college policies and procedures and state and federal laws;
  • Write reports and documents according to college requirements, division and grantor needs;
  • Plans such division events as symposia, professional development activities, Advisory Committee meetings, pinning events, and partner and grantee programs;
  • Participate in the establishment of the vision, long-term and short-term planning documents and decision-making and assist with strategic planning for the College.

 


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree and college teaching experience in one of the academic disciplines within the Divisions
  • Demonstrated understanding of and/or experience in working with competency-based education (CBE), HyFlex, and BlendFlex access models.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and sustain partnered programs between or among educational institutions: high schools, community colleges, and universities; and between or among non-profit agencies, businesses, and corporations.
  • Demonstrated ability in planning and resource management.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with faculty and administrative colleagues.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the Lewis & Clark mission.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree
  • Minimum of two years community college administrative experience, four-year college or university experience considered.
  • Experience in Illinois community college governance and funding.
