Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist IV for the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine within the New Jersey Medical School. Under the direction of the Clinical Cytogenetic Lab Supervisor, the Research Teaching Specialist IV conducts specialized clinical cytogenetic testing, including but not limited to chromosome karyotyping and Fluorescence in Situ Hybridization (FISH).
Among the key duties of this position are the following;
  • Routine Procedures will include but not limited to: reagent preparation, performing Tissue culture procedures, harvesting slides, Slide making, Slide banding and karyotyping, and FISH processing, probing and scoping.
  • Must be willing to work with potentially infectious specimens.
  • Responsible for accessioning of samples through the laboratory information system (LIS).
  • Assists the laboratory with maintaining laboratory, accessioning and technical responsibilities.
  • Carries out various technical and clinical operations relating to the activities of the laboratory.
  • Assists in the establishment of performance standards, proficiency testing, quality control and procedures associated to the maintenance of the clinical laboratory licenses.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Minimum of a Masters’ Degree or a Bachelors’ Degree in a relevant Science plus one (1) year of related experience.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • The individual must be reliable and dedicated to performing at their best in order to maintain research excellence.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a Clinical Cytogenetic lab.
  • ASCP certification.
Equipment Utilized
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Must sit at microscope for extended periods of time.
  • Works in dark rooms as well as standing for long periods of time doing bench top work.
  • Must be able to differentiate colors.
  • Exposure to human blood, bone marrow, body fluids, or tissues.
  • Exposure to harmful chemicals.

Immunization Requirements


Under Policy 60.1.35 Immunization Policy for Rutgers Employees and Prospective Employees , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption.
