Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New jersey is seeking a Mobile Health Unit Driver – Per Diem in Cancer Health Equity & Engagement at Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey.
The Mobile Health Unit Driver supports the improvement of patient outcomes through implementation of mobile health services for cancer screening at ScreenNJ partner sites throughout New Jersey. The focus of the ScreenNJ program is prevention and early detection of cancer. The Mobile Health Unit Driver is a member of the Mobile Health Unit Team responsible for the safe functioning and operation of the mobile unit and thus supports the extension of health services to medically underserved residents across New Jersey.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Drives a large (38’ long) Mobile Medical Unit in a safe, responsible manner, ensuring the MMU is set up and ready prior to clinical team arriving. Ensures MMU is mechanically sound and is adequately fueled, completing pre and post inspections before and after each use. Promptly reports any adverse mechanical,
    unsafe or unkempt conditions of vehicle.
  • Ensures that medical mobile units are able to be driven safely, able to complete basic maintenance procedures for operation including vehicle refueling, generator operation, climate control operation, dumping waste, leveling jacks, maintenance checks, cleaning, supply purchasing, washing, etc…
  • Performs a wide variety of clerical tasks as directed by clinical staff, including, but not limited to, patient registration, updating demographic information in patient medical records, completion of new patient paperwork and other grant paperwork, and other non-clinical duties as assigned.
  • Stocks all required supplies and forms, conducts routine equipment and maintenance checks on the mobile medical unit. Responsible for medical mobile unit care and upkeep including general cleaning and daily routine maintenance.
  • Exhibits tact and a helpful attitude towards medical mobile unit staff, on site personnel, clients and demonstrates good communication and listening skills with staff and clients.
  • Promotes teamwork and actively participates in meetings.
  • Able to work closely with staff at client sites and other community-based organizations and willing to engage with patients to promote interest and access to medical, dental, behavioral health, nutrition, case management, and insurance enrollment services.
  • Adheres to clinic departmental policies and procedures, which include Joint Commission (JC) standards, Patient Safety initiatives, Patient Rights, and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Privacy standards.
  • Attends relevant stakeholder and advisory meetings to support overall program implementation and evaluation.
  • Attends trainings and learning opportunities that expand content knowledge and best practices.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
Certifications/Licenses
  • Must possess and maintain a valid New Jersey drivers license in good standing.
  • Certification in CPR required within 6 months.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with physicians (or other professionals involved in specialized service provision for patients/clients), staff, and external organizations.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Fluent oral/written Spanish or other non-English language.

Equipment Utilized
Physical Demands and Work Environment
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Standing, sitting, walking, talking and hearing. No special vision requirements. Lifting up to 40 lbs. (to move project supplies, set-up and break-down event equipment, etc.). Significant in-state travel to regional partner locations and program events may be required. Valid driver’s license, two (2) years driving experience, and successful completion of the University’s defensive driving program within six (6) months of hire are required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Office environment. Moderate noise. The primary office location is in an office located at a partner agency in NJ (hiring for multiple locations with multiple office locations – each individual hired would have a primary office location). A centralized office location is in downtown New Brunswick and the incumbent(s) would be expected to visit this location approximately once per month for team meetings. Walking/travel between community event and community partner sites may be required frequently. Event venues occur in a wide variety of setting including indoor/outdoor events throughout New Jersey as well as virtual/video conferencing events.
