Job Description

The Position

A postdoctoral fellow position is available in the Early Discovery Biochemistry / Peptide Therapeutics Department at Genentech to discover disulfide constrained peptides (DCPs) for targets of interest. Active areas of research include development of diverse peptide libraries using display-based selection technologies and using these libraries to identify peptide leads with drug-like properties, performing next generation sequencing, validation of synthetically made DCPs and optimization of properties to evolve peptide lead hits. This position provides an opportunity to learn/apply in-house selection technologies (phage display, mRNA display, etc.), a variety of biophysical techniques, peptide rational design, and peptide structure determination using NMR spectroscopy.

Qualifications:

  • Qualified candidates must have a Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Biology, or a related discipline.
  • A successful candidate will be passionate and curious about developing selection platforms for discovery of peptide leads.
  • You need to be highly motivated and able to work effectively in a very collaborative research environment.
  • Skills in molecular biology, biochemistry techniques and biophysical assays (ELISA, PCR, SPR) as evidenced by a first author paper published or accepted in a peer-reviewed journal are desired.
  • Experience in peptide NMR spectroscopy, peptide chemistry, display screening technologies, such as phage, mRNA and yeast display, or high throughput screening is a plus.
  • Strong problem solving, communication and organizational skills are highly desirable.
