Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Senior Inpatient Coder (per diem) for the Department of Surgery within the New Jersey Medical School. Under the direction of the Director of Administration, the Senior Inpatient Coder ensures maximum and optimal department coding and charge capture. Coder will work closely with department leadership, faculty, staff and billing vendor to accomplish coding, billing and collection goals.
Among the key duties of this position are the following;
  • Codes, enters, reviews and corrects charges in collaboration with providers.
  • Keeps current with existing and new regulations to ensure maximum financial reimbursement and patient scheduling for the Department of Surgery and hospital (when applicable).
  • Regularly communicates with clinical staff regarding patient health issues, complications and insurance carrier requirements.
  • Maintains medical records management for the expedition of claim payments.
  • Follows up and collects on patients receivables.
  • Processes billing collection forms for CHANGE Healthcare (McKesson) or other third party billing company.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree plus two (2) years of responsible experience in coding, entering, reviewing and correcting submitted clinical charges.
  • Experience working in a large business, government agency or educational institution.
  • Equivalent education, experience and/or training may be substituted for the degree requirements.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must have excellent administrative and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency using computer programs (MS Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MedAptus, EPIC, Infinity, etc.)

Immunization Requirements


Under Policy 60.1.35 Immunization Policy for Rutgers Employees and Prospective Employees , Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption.
