Reporting to the Deputy Dean of the Faculty, the Assistant Dean for Diversity and Inclusion will be responsible for executing policies and initiatives emerging from the Office of the Dean of the Faculty (ODoF) in relation to faculty diversity and inclusion. The Assistant Dean will be a bona fide expert in the best practices of diversity and inclusion for faculty affairs. This person will support the efforts of the Deputy Dean of the Faculty and Associate Deans for Academic Affairs in training search officers and search committee chairs on diversifying the faculty, as well as monitoring the search process for faculty as well as academic professionals. This person will also assist the Deputy Dean in managing the process of receiving and responding to recruitment proposals from departments. In addition, the Assistant Dean, along with the Vice Dean for Diversity and Inclusion, will work with the Deputy Dean to support all faculty and academic departments engaging with diversity and inclusion in their scholarly and professional lives. This person will support other diversity and inclusion initiatives as needed.



The Assistant Dean for Diversity and Inclusion will:

  • Support the Deputy Dean of the Faculty in working with academic departments to diversify the faculty and other constituents appointed through the ODoF.
  • Engage departments in each stage of the hiring process and support/guide them in developing applicant pools, and implementing best practices in their search processes.
  • Together with the Vice Dean of the Faculty, run the Presidential Postdoctoral Fellows Program and continue to develop this and other pathway programs.
  • Partner with other diversity pathway initiatives at Princeton and elsewhere, targeted colleges and universities, and other entities to identify and encourage promising candidates to apply to faculty or research positions at Princeton.
  • Support the Dean, Deputy Dean of the Faculty, and the Vice Dean in working with the Faculty Advisory Committee on Diversity.
  • Work with others in the ODoF, Office of the Provost, and academic departments to collect, track, analyze, and report data related to diversity initiatives and climate.
  • Monitor national trends and seek benchmarks for success. Collaborate with the Deputy Dean and Vice Dean to make plans for continued improvement. 
  • Represent ODoF on various committees/ convenings, such as the Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Community of Practice Meetings.
  • Support other initiatives as needed. 


The position requires seven or more years of professional experience, or five or more years with a terminal degree. Terminal degree preferred.

The successful candidate will have a proven record of managing complex issues, communicating with diverse constituencies, meeting deadlines and prioritizing competing demands.

 

Other required qualifications:

  • Must work with absolute discretion and tact in handling highly confidential information.
  • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently at all organizational levels and with complex administrative teams.
  • Excellent communication skills and superior attention to detail.
  • Prior experience in the field of diversity and inclusion.
