Position Description
The Center for the Study of World Religions at Harvard Divinity School invites applications for a one-year paid postdoctoral fellowship in Spirituality and the Arts, in collaboration with the Warburg Institute, the Giorgio Cini Foundation, and the Centre for the History of Hermetic Philosophy and Related Currents at the University of Amsterdam. This is a benefits-eligible position. The candidates will work under the supervision of the Director of the Center, Professor Charles Stang, as part of the Center’s initiative on “Transcendence and Transformation.” Please see the CSWR website at this link for more information before applying.
The appointment will begin on August 1, 2023 and end July 31, 2024.
Candidates will pursue a research project in Spirituality and the Arts that aligns with the Center’s “Transcendence and Transformation” initiative. The fellowship will be based at the CSWR, but will include research stays of up to two months each at two of the three partner institutions: the Warburg Institute (London), Centre for Comparative Studies of Civilisations and Spiritualities of the Giorgio Cini Foundation (Venice), and the Centre for the History of Hermetic Philosophy and Related Currents at the University of Amsterdam.
Candidates will propose a research project that falls within the parameters of the “Transcendence and Transformation” initiative, and will participate in relevant meetings of students, staff, fellows, and faculty (online as well as in-person). In addition, candidates will be expected to contribute to the Center’s programming, public and private, (e.g. lecture series, workshops, reading groups, conferences, and possibly publications) in consultation with the Center Director. 
Please note that CSWR postdoctoral fellows are expected to reside in Massachusetts and/or the New England area within commuting distance to the Center for the Study of World Religions.
Basic Qualifications
Applicants should demonstrate the following qualifications:
(1) Completed advanced degree in a relevant field (completed PhD or ThD, not more than five years from the degree)
(2) A research project that aligns with the Center’s “Transcendence and Transformation” initiative, and with the partner institutions
(3) Evidence of publications relevant to that research project
(4) Evidence of an ability to work independently and collaboratively
