Overview

We are currently seeking a highly motivated and creative scientist to assist in the development and clinical testing of novel methods to identify and guide cancer therapy in the Letai lab (letailab.dana-farber.org) at Dana Farber Cancer Institute. The Letai lab is a translational medicine laboratory with a strong emphasis on functional precision medicine and improving patient therapy. The Research Technician will have the unique opportunity to support clinical testing that will influence patient care, as well as participate in the research and design of even better methods and biomarkers.  It is expected that successful applicants will be included as an author on publications deriving from this work. Prior research assistants have gone on to both medical school and graduate school.  We are looking for candidates who have at least two years of availability.  The start date is in May/June.

Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Process and perform daily testing on primary patient samples in a clinical research setting.
  • Communicate with clinical research coordinators to collect patient samples, ensuring proper documentation and quality control.
  • Perform statistical analysis of data and format into a clinical report.
  • Assist in the research, development, and optimization of new assays to be used by the lab or in clinical trials.
  • Collaborate with scientists from other laboratories and institutions to design and carry out additional experiments.
  • Maintain cell cultures.
  • Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies and reagents.
  • Prepare and present reports or lab meetings.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree required with a major in biology or chemistry preferred. 
  • Knowledge of information and techniques related to either biology, chemistry, or medicine is preferred.
  • Must have excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and be able to work with a wide variety of faculty and staff.
  • Ability to analyze information and use logic to address work-related issues and problems.
  • Must have attention to detail and be thorough in completing work tasks.
  • Familiarity with basic-level laboratory techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Ability to think critically and creatively and ask scientific questions.
  • Positive attitude and good interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational techniques and the ability to handle a variety of tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Working knowledge of basic computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, and other related software.
  • Experience with FACS or fluorescence microscopy is a plus.
