The ILR School at Cornell University is hiring a Postdoctoral Associate in the ILR Future of Work program beginning in the Fall 2023 semester.  The theme is Agrarian Studies, Climate Change, and the Future of Work.  The postdoctoral associate will work with ILR faculty member Sarah Besky. In addition to working on their own research, the postdoctoral associate is expected to work with Besky to build out programing and an intellectual community around Agrarian Studies in ILR and at Cornell. The teaching load will be no more than 1.5 courses per year.

Postdoctoral Associate is a full-time, academic, non-tenure track, term position with an initial one-year appointment. The position may be extended for second year, depending on available funding and work.

During the period of employment, the postdoctoral associate will focus on publishing out of their own research in conversation with Prof. Besky’s lab group, Agrarian Studio. Agrarian Studio—at present—is a collective of graduate students, postdocs, and visiting scholars. It is a space to learn and model constructive intellectual engagement and a space for a considering ethnographic writing and practice.

Program Building. The postdoctoral associate will work with Prof. Besky to build Agrarian Studio in the following ways: 1) adding a work-in-progress series for Cornell faculty and visiting speakers; 2) working with international partner institutions on programing; 3) applying for internal and external funding to support Agrarian Studio.

Teaching. The postdoctoral associate will teach during the fellowship period, developing one new course based on their research for ILR students and/or team-teaching with Prof. Besky on her courses.

Collaboration. The postdoctoral associate will work with Prof. Besky to organize a conference on Agrarian Studies, Climate Change, and the Future of Work at Cornell while in this position.

The postdoctoral associate will receive $70,000 in salary as well as a modest research budget and moving allowance.

Applicants should have a PhD in anthropology, geography, labor studies, STS, history or a closely associated field, as well as an active research agenda in agrarian studies, climate change, and work.
