Technician A Electro - Mechanical

Job Description

TECHNICIAN A ELECTRO-MECHANICAL, Plasma Science and Fusion Center (PSFC), to provide technical support to the PSFC’s scientific experiments, infrastructure, and facilities with a focus on vacuum welding and high-temperature brazing.  Will work closely with scientific and engineering staff to define job requirements; learn from senior technicians, engineers, and scientists to successfully complete all assigned tasks; perform general-purpose and vacuum-quality TIG/MIG welding on various metals (e.g., stainless steels like SS 304 or 316, nickel-based alloys like Inconel 625 and 718, and aluminum alloys like 6061-T6); perform high-temperature brazing operations on various metals (e.g., high conductivity copper such C101, and refractory metal alloys of molybdenum and tungsten); maintain all tools, equipment, and shop area required to support welding and brazing capabilities; and contribute general technician support (e.g., assembly/disassembly, cleaning, rigging/lifting, and operations).  

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED:  a high-school diploma or GED certificate; graduation from a two-year technical school or its equivalent such as technical military training; experience with TIG/MIG welding and high temperature brazing; working knowledge of relevant tools, equipment, and safety procedures; and ability to lift up to 50 lbs., stand for extended periods, and work in confined spaces.  Job #22460
