Job Description
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Full-time instructional position to instruct courses in Communication Design. This position will be in the Design Division of the college. Responsibilities will also include recruiting and interviewing prospective students, advising current students, developing and delivering curriculum, job placement for graduates, and maintaining an on-going relationship with industry. Course load may include: communication design, design production, illustration and/or web/UI approaches, life drawing, digital photography, modern design & theory.

Required Qualifications
Minimum:
Education Requirement
    • Associate degree in commercial art or graphic arts.

 

Occupational Experience Requirement
  • Four full-time years (or equivalent) of verified related paid work experience as a commercial artist or a graphic artist
Recency Requirement
  • One year of this work experience shall be within the five years immediately preceding the date of application for the credential field. The recency requirement shall be waived if the individual has two years of successful full-time (or equivalent) postsecondary teaching experience in the credential field within the last five years.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Strongly prefer Master’s degree in fine arts or Master’s degree in any discipline/field with a minimum of 18 graduate semester credits (27 graduate quarter credits) in art
  • Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary design practice, discourse, and technologies
  • Demonstrated ability to teach design courses, including: introductory, intermediate and advanced levels, as well as life drawing, photography, and modern design and theory
  • Professional experience in one or more of the following areas: UI/UX, Data Visualization, Motion Design, Branding, Illustration, Creative Direction
  • Teaching experience in a higher education environment
  • Demonstrated proficiency in all industry standard software: Adobe InDesign, Illustrator & Photoshop
  • Working knowledge in one or more of the following: HTML/CSS, Javascript, Figma, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Animate
  • Familiarity with project management tools and processes
  • Demonstrated service and/or membership within the larger design community and/or public
  • Commitment to excellence and expectations of students to achieve a reasonable proficiency for meeting market needs

Other Requirements
NOTICE: In accordance with the Minnesota State Vehicle Fleet Safety Program, employees driving on college/university business who use a rental or state vehicle shall be required to conform to Minnesota State’s vehicle use criteria and consent to a Motor Vehicle Records check.
