Technical Associate I, Lieberman Lab
Job Description
TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE I, Institute for Medical Engineering and Science (IMES)-Lieberman Lab, to join a lab using both experimental and computational approaches to understand the skin microbiome. Its long-term vision is to build models of ecological and evolutionary dynamics in order to realize potential precision microbiome engineering. Will perform a range of bench and computational research; participate in modification of protocols and experiment strategies, perform literature reviews and document standard operating procedures; maintain the lab’s backup data server; maintain inventories of laboratory supplies; ensure safety standards and procedures are followed; prepare lab for inspections and correct problems; participate in onboarding and training new staff; record, summarize, and document findings, including presenting data analysis to lab members; schedule equipment maintenance/repairs, troubleshoot and make recommendations to solve equipment issues, work with vendors and maintain equipment service contracts/records, and research and recommend specialized equipment purchases; participate in modification of protocols and experimental strategies; and perform other duties as assigned. May co-author articles/manuscripts.

REQUIRED: B.S. in biology, computer science, or related field; two years’ experience (may include experience gained as an undergraduate) in either wet-lab biology or computational biology; working knowledge of wet and dry lab microbiological techniques; proficiency with Microsoft, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills; willingness to explore and implement opportunities that add value to the lab; attention to detail; and self-direction and self-motivation. Must be able to collaborate as a team member and work with minimal supervision while meeting deadlines, tracking deliverables, and juggling competing priorities in a rapidly evolving work environment. Work outside of regular business hours will be required on occasion.
Travel within the United States may also be required (not to exceed three days per year).
