Overview

The Research Informatics for Operations (RIO) group is looking for an Informatics Specialist II to participate in the management of server infrastructure, ongoing technical application support, and systems and interface development for all enterprise products and systems supporting the clinical research, basic research and research administration needs of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI).  RIO is a subdivision of the DFCI Informatics and Analytics (I&A) department, led by the Chief Data and Analytics Officer (CDAO) of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI).

The incumbent will work with-in a technical team that manages software vendor relationships, and manages/participates in the development, implementation, support, and integration of basic research, clinical research, and research administration systems.  Working with Product Managers, Project Leaders, and the Customer Experience Services team, the Product Strategy Operations team is responsible for managing server infrastructure, ongoing technical application support, and developing systems design and development of enterprise solutions to address the needs of all research faculty and operations staff at DFCI and the DF/HCC.  Incumbent may be selected by the Director of Product Strategy Operations, to act as Product Manager of one or more systems in the RIO’s application portfolio.  Product Managers have continued oversight of development and infrastructure activities necessary for the implementation and support of the RIO systems.

Responsibilities

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reports directly to the Director of Product Strategy Operations, RIO. The incumbent will participate in DFCI clinical research strategy, visioning, and development activities, as appropriate.
  • Participates in the development, implementation, support, and integration of basic research, clinical research and research administration systems
  • Works as Product Manager to ensure continued oversight of development and infrastructure activities necessary for the implementation of the RIO systems.
  • Works with the Customer Experience Services (CES) managers to ensure proper support activities for RIO systems.
  • Works closely with other RIO Product Managers and with Engineering Product Managers to ensure that all hardware of such systems are in proper working order and support the latest versions of operating and server software. Facilitates hardware acquisitions with Partners and DFCI server, database, and web server teams.
  • Utilize Dana-Farber Cancer Institute values to govern decisions, actions and behaviors.

Qualifications

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree required in relevant technical discipline or business area.
  • 5+ years of project management/leadership role implementing complex large-scale, enterprise system implementations
  • 5+ years programming experience relevant languages specifically: C#/Visual Basic .NET, MS SQL and/or Oracle
  • Proficient in database design using MS SQL and/or Oracle
  • Broad technical background with hands-on experience and proficiency with widely utilized software development technologies, including Java, C#, etc.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of clinical research operations, especially clinical trials management and the study lifecycle.
  • Knowledge and experience with biospecimen banking and outcomes research desirable.
  • Experience with, or exposure to, the National Cancer Institute or other comparable organizations and familiarity with relevant national initiatives a major plus.
  • Knowledge of, or exposure to, biomedical informatics desirable.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple levels of staff and projects in both a direct and matrix reporting environment.
  • Experience with the design, development, and implementation of sophisticated information systems, especially with large-scale relational systems
  • Experience with large-scale, metrics reporting utilizing business intelligence tools
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with all levels of organization, most notably with high senior level executives and senior scientists and investigators.
  • Exhibits strong professional and proficient persona and brings a passion to improving informatics solutions to the clinical trials research world.
  • Demonstrated expertise in achieving consensus in highly charged arenas.
  • Excellent record of successfully solving complex problems across diverse departments and domains.
  • Demonstrated commitment to delivery of high quality customer service.
  • Proven ability to manage and motivate in a highly complex and changing environment.
