The Joseph P. Kennedy Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities Research Center, Department of Pediatrics
Position Type: Other Academic Appointee

Chicago, IL

Mar 10, 2023 – Mar 20, 2023

Description

The University of Chicago's Department of Pediatrics, Kennedy Center, seeks a Research Associate
Professor to provide the scientific and intellectual leadership to develop and oversee new research
infrastructure within the Department. The Department of Pediatrics is currently expanding its research
programs in Genetics and Genomics, and this new infrastructure will allow researchers to conduct state
of the art experiments using single cell technologies and gene editing in mammalian, organoid, and stem
cell models to uncover the molecular and cellular aspects of cardiovascular development and congenital
heart disease.

We seek applicants with an extensive background in in vitro and in vivo technologies related to cardiac
development, including in vitro culture of primary cardiac or embryonic stem cells and in vivo genetic
approaches in mouse models. We especially welcome applicants with expertise in embryonic heart
anatomy, gene targeting in mouse models, and technologies including single cell RNAseq, single nuclei
RNAseq, or single nuclei ATACseq. Additional responsibilities will include the teaching and training of
postdocs and students. In addition, the position requires management of a lab including animal and
other protocol development, grant preparation, budgeting, and ordering.

The appointee will join a vibrant center of scientific discovery and innovation. Opportunities for
multidisciplinary collaboration are abundant, both within and outside the Biological Sciences Division.
The Biological Sciences Division, other academic units of the University of Chicago, and UChicago
Medicine, are all contained within one compact campus in Chicago’s Hyde Park. The primary
appointment will be in the Department of Pediatrics although we anticipate that the appointee will
develop close interactions with other departments, divisions, and institutes at the University of Chicago.
Qualified applicants must 1) have a doctoral degree or equivalent, and 2) have completed postdoctoral
training prior to the start of employment.

Applicants must apply through the University of Chicago’s Academic Recruitment job board, which uses
