Additional Department Information:

The Wilson Alaska Technical Center was created to recognize the accomplishments and growing stature of nuclear treaty monitoring support programs at the Geophysical Institute of the University of Alaska Fairbanks. WATC operates and maintains more than twenty infrasound and seismic arrays worldwide, providing data that is used for monitoring nuclear proliferation, volcanic eruptions, and earthquake activity.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • General knowledge of seismic and/or infrasound science is required.
  • Specific knowledge on the collection, analysis, and dissemination of seismic and/or acoustic data.
  • Experience in the use of computers and other appropriate equipment to conduct the research proposed.
  • Ability to write and maintain professional code to analyze seismic and/or acoustic data.
  • Ability to publish in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to contribute to scholarly publications


Typical Experience:
Two years of research experience which may be obtained during the completion of the degree program.
Required Education or Training:
Ph.D. degree (already received, or has completed all requirements and awaiting graduation) with emphasis on a relevant scientific field. Must possess a terminal degree prior to the start of the position.
Salary Information:

This position is a full-time, Post Doctoral Fellow, term-funded, exempt, 9-month position complete with a competitive salary and UA employee benefits package. New hires starting salary will be based on education and experience.

UAF COVID Requirements:
