Position Description: | Discipline: Biological Sciences. A position for a postdoctoral research scholar with a molecular biology background is available in a lab focused on vascular and mitochondrial biology and integrative physiology.
The successful candidate will be involved in studying the effects of mitochondrial Ca2+ uptake in endothelium and smooth muscle in novel genetic models. Current disease models include restenosis after balloon angioplasty and vascular injury by cancer therapy. He/she will have access to in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo research models, as well as various research techniques and advanced equipment. The successful candidate is expected to qualify for training grants and fellowships. |

Required Qualifications: | The ideal candidate will be a recent graduate and should have a strong background in either vascular pharmacology/physiology and Ca2+ imaging or mitochondrial biology and will be expected to acquire new complementary skills during the position. Experience with genetic mouse models is required. Experience with cell biology and physiology, incl. cell culture, protein assays, western blots, DNA/RNA isolation and amplification, molecular cloning, mutagenesis and immunostaining is required. The ability to design, execute and interpret experiments and to search the scientific literature and draft abstracts and manuscripts is expected. |
Desirable Qualifications: | Experience with Ca2+ imaging, electrophysiology, mitochondrial isolation and assays are desired.
Applicants should be passionate about conducting scientific research, demonstrate ethics and integrity, and be able to work both independently and as an effective member of a research team.
