The Division of Materials Science and Engineering at Ames National Laboratory is searching for a qualified Postdoctoral Research Associate.

The post-doc will work with Prof. Yuji Furukawa in the field of experimental condensed matter physics by utilizing an experimental technique of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) /Nuclear Quadruple Resonance (NQR), focusing on electronic and magnetic properties of strongly correlated electron systems such as Fe pnictides, its related materials, heavy fermions and low dimensional spin systems.

The successful candidate will be expected to coordinate the efforts with the group leader (supervisor) and collaborate with other researchers in the Division of Materials Science and Engineering; day-to-day supervision of undergraduate, graduate students; perform the experiments; collect and interpret the experimental results; produce research reports; present results at professional national and international meetings; prepare manuscripts for publication; report work progress and results to the group leader.

Applicants are expected to carry out NMR/NQR experiments using following NMR facilities in the NMR group.

NMR spectrometer : 4 home-made NMR spectrometers (3-500 MHz)

Temperature : T = 0.05 – 650K (one dilution refrigerator and three 4 He cryostats)

Magnetic field : B = 0 -9 Tesla (Two 9 T sweep-type SC magnets, one 8 T high resolution

SC magnet, and one 1.5 T electromagnet)

Pressure : P = 0- 25 kBar.

This Postdoctoral Research Associate is a one-year appointment with opportunity for renewal.
