Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director and Program Leader for UME’s Family and Consumer Sciences program (FCS) and Principal Investigators (PIs), the Project Coordinator will provide administrative support, project coordination, and operational support for various public health, mental health, and well-being projects. These projects aim to provide training that equips Marylanders with the knowledge and skills to improve their health and their communities’ health / mental health. The project approach includes 1) delivery of Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) and other evidence-based programs for Maryland residents, peer recovery professionals, and other human service professionals (e.g., libraries and community centers); 2) developing and maintaining a mechanism for tracking referrals to mental health services made by trainees; and 3) partnership development and maintenance with relevant health-focused agencies. The Project Coordinator will also work with faculty and staff in UME to develop and maintain digital content (e.g., website, social media, electronic newsletters) with resources for the target population and support for local practitioners.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mental Health, Social Work, Public Health, Family Science, or related field
  • Two years of professional experience managing funded grants or service delivery programs
  • Knowledge of state and local mental health resources
  • Experience and proven skills in writing, verbal communications, grant management, and the use of multimedia formats
  • Experience managing and working with diverse groups
  • Personal transportation and a valid driver’s license
  • Evidence of capacity to build UME Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Respect capacity through the Extension program model.
  • This position is subject to a Criminal History Record Check and a University of Maryland Background check. Employment is contingent upon the successful completion and clearance of the Criminal History Record Check.

Preferences:

  • Knowledge of behavioral health and mental disorders preferred
  • Successful development and implementation of new community-based programs and services preferred
  • Demonstrated prior experience in creating and maintaining interagency partnerships.

Additional Information:

Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate program activities for Extension Mental Health/Health projects.
  • Provide operational oversight of all project activities.
  • Facilitate partnership development and management at state and local levels.
  • Complete the certifications for the programs such as MHFA and deliver programs in-person and virtually.
  • Provide administrative support for project faculty, subcontractors, and partners.
  • Ensure that university and federal policies and guidelines are observed.
  • Track project implementations and maintain databases according to project goals.
  • Coordinate the projects’ evaluation (e.g., data collection, data entry, data management).
  • Prepare federal reports.
  • Provide weekly updates to Principal Investigators (PIs) about the critical aspects of the project (e.g., adherence to the timeline, staffing, recruitment and retention, and scheduling training).
  • This position requires moderate travel, both locally and in-state, to conduct performance reviews, track implementation at local sites, attend meetings, make observations, and meet grant requirements.

Salary: Will be commensurate with experience, with a base salary of $60,000. The position is a 1.0 FTE, equivalent to 40 hours per week. The position is a 12-month grant-funded contract that may be renewed for the duration of the two-year grant project (1/1/2023-12/31/2024).

  • Nature of the Position: This position frequently presents information through vocal and written communication to individuals of various ages, socio-economic, and educational backgrounds.
  • Physical Demands: A routine part of this position’s responsibilities would be to transport materials to and from teaching/event locations, including loading and unloading the vehicle. The employee will frequently lift and/or move items weighing up to 20 pounds. Set-up and tear-down of displays, tables, and chairs would be necessary at many teaching sites.
  • Environmental conditions vary; primarily in office, but also exposed to gardens, farms, and other outdoor conditions.
