The Department of Stem Cell Institute is currently seeking a full time Research Assistant to work in Miami. The Research Assistant contributes with research investigators by providing research and experimentation support while following established protocols. Further, the Research Assistant performs a clerical role to ensure the smooth operations of office facilities. ?

JOB FUNCTIONS


  • Sets up and operates various scientific apparatus and makes minor repairs.

  • Prepares correspondence and answers phones.

  • Formulates and maintains bibliographies and completes applications and forms.

  • Orders laboratory supplies and maintains culture media reagents.

  • Reviews and edits various materials for publication and prepares publication schedules.

  • Maintains appropriate logs, records, and study notebooks.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Department Specific Functions


  • Under general direction, assists the research investigators by performing research and experimentation support following established protocols.

  • The Research Assistant reports to the PI and the Lab Manager.

  • The Research Assistant is responsible for carrying out independent research experiments under the scientific guidance of the PI or senior lab members (postdocs and students).

  • As needed, the research assistant is required to assist with other lab members’ research as directed by the PI.

  • Directly responsible for properly managing and supervising the acquisition, processing, storage, accountability, shipping, and documentation of biological specimens. The Research Assistant ensures all Laboratory activities are performed correctly.

  • Responsible for reading and understanding the study protocol and SOPs  for procedures for the acquisition, processing, storage, accountability, shipping, and documentation of biological specimens for each study protocol prior to conducting any procedures.

  • The Research Assistant is responsible for accurate accountability records and storage of the specimens in a manner such that all specimens are easily retrievable.

  • Ensures all Laboratory source documents are completed accurately.

  • Research Assistant is directly responsible for proper shipping. All samples to be shipped will be inventoried by the Research Assistant.

  • Orders laboratory supplies as needed.

  • Attends and participates in sponsor meetings and training groups as requested.

  • Keeps detailed notebooks and records of all scientific experiments and regularly presents research results in lab meeting

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

High School diploma or equivalent

Experience:

Minimum 1 year of relevant experience
