Job Summary

The Morgan laboratory at the UCSF Mission Bay campus (https://morganlab.ucsf.edu ) is seeking a Staff Research Associate to join our team of talented scientists studying the regulatory enzymes that control chromosome behavior in mitosis. These studies will involve a combination of molecular biology, protein expression and purification, enzymology, mammalian cell culture, and microscopy. In addition to supporting the work of other team members and helping with lab management, the candidate will pursue an independent research project under the supervision of lab members and the PI.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Department Description

The Department of Physiology is a thriving Basic Science Department with over 150 faculty, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and staff. Research projects cover the broad spectrum of physiological applications in neuroscience, molecular, and cellular physiology. The department research and administration are housed at the Mission Bay Campus, while instruction remains at its roots on the Parnassus Campus.


Required Qualifications

SRA I:

  • BA/BS in a related science and knowledge of, or experience with, the basic techniques or methods required by the position; and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience;

SRA II:

  • BA/BS in a related science and one or more years of recent, directly related work experience following degree completion, utilizing the techniques or methods required by the position; and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience;

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in molecular cloning methods and biochemistry at a major research institution
  • Detail-oriented, meticulous, highly organized, punctual
  • Ability to work on a team, take initiative, solve problems, and communicate effectively
