Assistant/Associate Professor (Tenure Track)
Department of Nutrition and Dietetics

The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, Saint Louis University, St. Louis, MO, welcomes applicants for a tenure-track position with dual expertise in nutrition and exercise physiology. This position will be a nine-month tenure track appointment with an anticipated start date of August 2023. Teaching responsibilities and research mentoring will support the Nutrition and Physical Performance concentration of our master’s degree program. The Nutrition and Physical Performance concentration is a multidisciplinary program that prepares students for careers involving the interrelationships between nutrition and exercise, including sports dietetics, weight management, eating disorders treatment, nutrition for military personnel, and many others.

  The Department seeks individuals who will contribute positively to the Department, College, University, and Saint Louis through their vision and passion for the profession. Given the region’s rich agricultural and healthcare connections, paired with the unique nutrition and culinary synergies of the department, a multitude of opportunities exist and are available for exploration.

The successful candidate will have experience working in exercise science or a kinesiology-related field, and will be required to conduct research, secure external research grants/contracts, provide research opportunities and guide graduate students’ research; teach across the nutrition, exercise science, and physiology curriculum within the Nutrition Department and Doisy College of Health Sciences; participate in Department, College, and/or University service as well as professional development activities.

Position Requirements
 

Required

  • Earned doctoral degree (e.g. PhD, EdD, DCN) in Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science, Nutrition, or a closely related field

  • Evidence of ability to teach effectively at the university level

  • Experience in grant submission and/funding

  • Evidence of scholarly activity with publications in peer-reviewed journals

  • Attendance and presentations at professional meetings

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Commitment to diversity and inclusion

Preferred

  • Registered dietitian credential and licensure (RD/RDN, LD)

  • Professional-level certification(s), such as NSCA-CSCS or CPSS, CSCCa, or ACSM-EP or CEP, or the ability to obtain upon hire.

  • Postdoctoral fellowship training

  • Established or emerging national reputation in nutritional aspects of exercise physiology

  • A record of successful external grant funding

Department of Nutrition and Dietetics

The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics is housed in the Doisy College of Health Sciences on the University’s urban medical center campus. It has accredited undergraduate and graduate (MS/Dietetic Internship) degree programs in dietetics, and a certificate program. Optional tracks are available within the degree programs, including culinary arts, pre-medicine, or pre-physician assistant training at the undergraduate level and medical nutrition therapy, public health nutrition, nutrition and physical performance, and pediatric nutrition at the graduate level. The department currently employs 8 full-time faculty members.
