Job Description Summary:

Provides leadership for strategic planning and for the effective implementation and administration of the Austin Community College’s (ACC) student care and advocacy programs and services.

Job Description:

Description of Duties and Tasks

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Coordinates and leads strategic planning for student care and advocacy programs and services districtwide.
  • Supervises, monitors, coordinates, and assesses all student care and advocacy programs and services. Responsible for hiring and termination for positions supervised.
  • Recruits, hires, supervises, trains, coaches, directs, coordinates and monitors performance of staff for positions supervised.  Administers progressive discipline and recommends termination, if needed, while adhering to organizational human resource policies and procedures and relevant employment laws. 
  • Establishes and supports program and staff performance goals.
  • Assesses the need for and procures training, if needed, to maximize individual and programmatic outcomes.
  • Provides leadership in program development, implementation and accountability in accordance with departmental goals and objectives. 
  • Manages program budgets and is responsible for monitoring and effective use of funds within college and program guidelines.  Participates in the annual budgeting development.
  • Ensures accurate, complete and on-going data collection, analysis and reporting to ensure continuous program and customer service improvement.
  • Identifies equity barriers and collaborates with ACC departments and programs on projects district wide to resolve equity barriers for students.
  • Provides districtwide leadership and remains current on research and practices regarding programming and serves for low income and under-resourced populations, including, but not limited to, people of color, individuals formerly in foster care, parenting students and other populations who encounter persistent systemic barriers to attaining their educational goals.
  • Participates in college wide strategic planning and development.
  • Develops, implements and provides strategic support for collaborations with community partners.
  • Serves as an information and referral resource to students, faculty, staff and the community with regard to student care and advocacy services and grants.
  • Adjudicates and resolves complaints or concerns with faculty, staff, and students regarding the provision of student care and advocacy services and related grant activities.
  • Participates and provides leadership on college committees and councils. 
  • Ensures that relevant websites are updated and maintained.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge

Must possess required knowledge and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.

  • Multicultural education programs and systems.
  • Principles and practices for student support, especially for low income and under-resourced students.
  • Principles and practices for implementation of diverse, equitable and inclusive programming and services.
  • Supervisory principles, practices and methods.
  • Data gathering and statistical reporting.
  • Budgets and budgeting.

Skills

Must possess required skills and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.

  • Effectively use interpersonal and communications skills, including tact and diplomacy.

Technology Skills

  • Use a variety of spreadsheet, word processing, database, and presentation software.

Required Work Experience

  • Five years related work experience including management and supervisory experience in a higher education 

Required Education

  • Master’s level in Poverty Studies, Social Justice, Social Work, Human Services, Family Studies, Higher Education or Public Service Administration, Human Development or closely related fields
