The Institute for Protein Design (IPD) at the University of Washington in Seattle is creating a new world of synthetic proteins to address 21st-century challenges in medicine, energy, and technology. The IPD is a unique interdisciplinary environment where world-class researchers with expertise in computing and software, biochemistry, genome sciences, biological structure, pharmacology, immunology and other basic science disciplines, as well as clinical medicine, work together to both computationally design and experimentally characterize novel biomolecules. Current projects include the design of novel therapeutics for cancer, neurological diseases, and more, as well as new vaccines, nanomaterials, and enzymes. The Institute for Protein Design (IPD) has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Scientist/ Engineer Assistant.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

GENERAL LAB FUNCTIONS (50 %)
• Maintain inventory using the Aquarium software for all chemicals, supplies, reagents, and biological samples.
• Work with the Principal Investigator and Laboratory Manager to assist with laboratory-wide EH&S compliance including BSL-1/BSL-2 inspections, and BUA approval and documentation.
• Work with the Lab Team, Programming Team, Funding Team, and User Team to ensure the BIOFAB is meeting monthly, weekly, and quarterly goals.

EXPERIMENTAL AND RESEARCH FUNCTIONS (50 %)
• Coordinate with the Aquarium software team to update current protocols.
• Coordinate with new customers to integrate new protocols into the BIOFAB.
• Work directly with Principal Investigators, postdoctoral fellows, students and laboratory staff in the
• planning experiments.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's Degree in Biochemistry or related field + less than 3 months of experience in related area.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Previous experience or familiarity with molecular biology, protein expression and purification.

DESIRED
Previous experience with Aquarium, yeast strain development.
