Postdoctoral Scholar - Research Associate

Neely Center for Ethical Leadership and Decision Making

The USC Marshall School of Business invites applicants for a postdoctoral position to be housed in the Neely Center for Ethical Leadership and Decision Making and the Management and Organization Department. The scholar will work with Professor Nathanael Fast and his research lab to conduct original “psychology of technology” research on the determinants and consequences of increasing technological adoption on individuals and society. Research interests could include, but are not limited to, social and psychological implications of social media use, artificial intelligence in business and society, or virtual reality and its potential impacts on users, organizations, and society. The Neely Center leads several projects that seek to improve the psychological outcomes that arise from the increasing adoption of technology in society. The work of the center includes projects aimed at improving the impact of social media on society, educating tomorrow’s leaders on the ethical use of AI, and anticipating ethical challenges in the adoption of virtual and augmented reality.

Responsibilities: The postdoctoral scholar can expect to spend their time creating, executing, and publishing original rigorous high-quality research. They will be expected to contribute to ongoing projects and help assist the team in designing, organizing and conducting advanced quantitative analyses. They will be asked to contribute to writing both academic articles and popular reports. They will have an interest and ability to translate complex data for mainstream audiences.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent social and communication skills are essential because this job requires communicating research findings to diverse stakeholders including academics, technologists, press, and policy makers.

  • We are looking for a candidate who is self-motivated, highly organized, extremely conscientious, and a good team player.

Salary Range: The annual base salary range for this position is $70,000-80,000. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
