Project Type: Americorps VISTA

Service Term: 1 year

Raise awareness; raise funds! This service opportunity will develop a resource plan that supports equitable solutions to issues that affect disenfranchised (marginalized) communities. Great opportunity for an emerging writer and strategist.
Program Description: The Urban League of Greater Atlanta’s mission has been all about economic empowerment since we opened our doors more than a century ago. We are recognized as a dedicated, person-to-person organization committed to the economic advancement of African Americans and other under-served communities in the metropolitan area. We meet and evaluate people where they are and help them set economic advancement goals, equip them with what they need, and elevate them to where they want to go to build household income and wealth. A robust coalition of committed stakeholders joins us to include corporate, private, civic, community, faith-based, civil rights, and individual supporters that are strongly invested in the economic success of urban communities across metropolitan Atlanta and the state. Our Financial Empowerment and Emergency Relief Center (FEERC) delivers integrated economic mobility services to youth, adults, families, and small businesses.
Member Duties: Since 2020, ULGA has undergone rapid growth and expansion. This expansion in many areas of our programming has put stress on development efforts which the current system has struggled to keep up with. This project will entail devising, crafting, and helping to implement a robust and comprehensive Resource Development and Sustainability Plan agency-wide, both long and short-term. The Americorps VISTA member will help develop a fundraising strategy that consists of a variety of different approaches, reflects elements like campaign strategies and budget planning, and helps ULGA meet its organizational and programmatic goals. Part of the development process will be to help gauge the giving landscape in Metro Atlanta and what it can hold. Within this Plan, the VISTA will help establish a donor recognition strategy and program based on what has worked for similar organizations.
Select desired education level: Bachelor’s degree in English, Public Administration, Mass Communications or related field preferred.
Skills: Professionalism, Analytical, Critical Thinking, Conflict Resolution, Collaboration, Integrity, Social Skills, Communications, Problem Solving, Active Listening, Values Diversity, Adaptability, Writing, Facilitation and Training, Adobe, and MS Office. Knowledge and experience in a nonprofit role and with fundraising software systems a plus.
Living Allowance: The Americorps VISTA program provides a living allowance to its volunteers. The living allowance is $17,600 for the year of service and is paid every two weeks.
