Position Duties
The Theology Department at Loyola University Maryland invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow in Theology. The Loyola University Maryland Postdoctoral Teaching Fellowship is designed to support early career scholars from historically underrepresented groups on their path to becoming teacher-scholars. Loyola University Maryland is a liberal arts university in the Jesuit tradition. This is a two-year position beginning in Fall 2023. The candidate must have completed a PhD or ThD in a relevant field by the time of employment.
Program Details: The fellowship program is designed to provide emerging scholars with professional mentoring in teaching and research with guidance of established faculty. Fellows will participate in a yearlong professional development program that includes internal and external support. Fellows will teach two courses per semester and conduct research and/or creative work in their chosen field of study. In addition to teaching and research, fellows will have the opportunity to mentor undergraduate students and participate in the life of the department and university. The Fellow will attend faculty meetings (and otherwise participate in the life of the department). Funds will be provided for research or travel.
Responsibilities of the position include teaching two undergraduate courses per semester, attending faculty meetings, and participating in other departmental events. Specialty is open, but the ability to teach Black theology, Black Catholic studies, Latinx theology, and/or comparative theology (Christian theology and another religious tradition) is highly desired. In addition to teaching undergraduate courses in their area of specialty, applicants must be able to teach a one-semester undergraduate introductory course in Christian theology, encompassing an introduction to Scripture, soundings in the theological tradition, and contemporary theological questions.
Required: The successful candidate will have a PhD or ThD completed by the time of employment; and will demonstrate the potential for signi?cant scholarly activity.

Compensation: Competitive salary, research and travel money available, additional internal research funds available through application, some moving expenses can be covered.
