Description

The University of Chicago's Department of Pediatrics, Section of Academic Pediatrics, seeks part-time child abuse pediatricians. The appointees will contribute to patient care and join a vibrant and distinguished community of faculty colleagues and students. The position will provide consultation within an established interdisciplinary process and participate in court-related activities as needed. It will also support the Multidisciplinary Pediatric Education and Evaluation Consortium (MPEEC) program by providing real-time expert medical consultation to child welfare and law enforcement for a mandated population of children who are reported for serious harm. The program is managed by UChicago Medicine Comer Children’s Hospital Child Advocacy and Protective Services (CAPS) program staff, and case coordination is supported by a full-time MPEEC investigations coordinator. The Multidisciplinary Pediatric Education and Evaluation Consortium (MPEEC) is a national landmark program and has received state support for over 18 years. The position does not require teaching or scholarly activity. Compensation (including a generous package of fringe benefits) is dependent on qualifications.

UChicago Medicine is designated as a both a Level 1 Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center and operates a nationally recognized burn unit. Comer Children's Hospital is an integrated children’s hospital that offers a full complement of pediatric services with a total of 172 general pediatric, NICU and PICU beds. Our pediatric faculty includes over 170 full-time members and postdoctoral researchers. 

The Comer Children’s CAPS program was established in 1991 and has a national reputation as a leader in the medical care of abused and neglected children. The CAPS program is primarily a hospital-based consultation service. The core CAPS team comprises 2 CAP board-certified physicians, a physician assistant, a clinical social worker, and full-time administrative support.

Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must: 1) have a medical doctorate or equivalent, 2) hold or be eligible for medical licensure in the State of Illinois, and 3) be Board certified or Board eligible in Child Abuse Pediatrics.
