Full-Time, Tenure Track - Medical Terminology

Job Description

THE POSITION

Compton Community College District is seeking an innovative individual whose focus is student learning for a full-time 10-month tenure-track position teaching Medical Terminology courses. Duties associated with the position include participation in a variety of campus and divisional activities such as faculty meetings, committee work, student activities, office hours, student learning outcomes and assessment, curriculum/instructional development and program review. Assignment may include teaching courses during day and evening hours including weekends. Selected candidates will be invited for an interview, which will include a teaching demonstration on an assigned topic.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position requires a commitment to the college including 15 hours of teaching per week. Evening, weekend, or dual enrollment classes may be scheduled based on the department's needs and student demand. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

Deliver instruction in the areas of Medical Terminology through lectures, demonstrations, evaluations, orientations, and prescribed individualized instruction in all classes;

Develop and update courses and curricula, develop and assess Student/Program Learning Outcomes and participate in the Program Review process;

Develop resources, materials and strategies, including multimedia technology to teach students in a multicultural environment;

Participate in department and other campus meetings;

Maintain accurate records of grades, attendance, and class no-shows in accordance with district policy, rules, regulations, and procedures;Maintain professional and ethical academic standards and

Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disabled, and ethnic background of community college faculty, staff and students

 

 

Required Qualifications:

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Any Bachelor's degree and two (2) full-time equivalent years of professional experience directly related to the faculty member's teaching assignment, OR

Any Associate's degree and six (6) full-time equivalent years of professional experience directly related to the faculty member's teaching assignment; OR

Possess a valid California Community College instructor credential in appropriate subject issued prior to July 1, 1990 (per California Education Code 87355) OR

The equivalent- Candidates not possessing the required qualifications as stated above, must complete the supplemental page of the district application and explain in detail how their qualifications are equivalent to those above.

Have sensitivity to and understanding of multi-cultural, diverse environments and college students from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Recent community college teaching experience.

Degrees in a health-related field.

 

 

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
SALARY RANGE: $55,669-$89,569 (depending upon education and experience)

The College provides a diversified insured benefit program for all full-time employees, including medical, dental, vision and life insurance. Dependent medical, dental and vision insurance is available, toward which the College and the employee may contribute.

 

Paid sick leave is granted equal to one day for each month of service. Sick leave may be accumulated indefinitely. Rather than State Disability Insurance, limited sick-leave benefits are available for days beyond the earned sick-leave days. Long-term disability income-protection insurance is also available.

Full-time employees contribute a percentage of their regular salary to either the State Teachers' Retirement System (STRS) or to the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS) and Social Security.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

INTERVIEW EXPENSES

Only individuals identified for FINAL interviews are eligible for specified reimbursement. Reimbursement will be limited to economy airfare (to and from point of origin) and for meals and lodging. The maximum allocated for meals, lodging and transportation is $600. Candidate must complete a Travel Request and Reimbursement Form and submit it together with all supporting documentation to the Human Resources Department.
