Who we are
The Department of Veterinary Physiology and Pharmacology is the only department of its kind in the State of Texas, and has a rich tradition of excellence in education, research and outreach with an emphasis on both veterinary and human medicine. The department houses the Michael E. DeBakey Institute for Cardiovascular Science and Biomedical Devices, the Reproductive Sciences Center, the Interdisciplinary Toxicology Program and the Center for Cell and Organ Biotechnology.

Required Education:
Appropriate PhD
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to perform skilled analytical chemistry experiments and provide management support to the laboratory and graduate students
Ability to use previously developed laboratory procedures, modify methods from the scientific literature, conduct accurate analysis as required, keep detailed and understandable laboratory records, and operate and troubleshoot a variety of instruments including scanning UV/Visible spectrophotometers, high pressure liquid chromatographs (HPLC), UPLC/MS/MS, and others
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others
Advanced level of knowledge in analytical chemistry, environmental toxicology, and data management and analysis
Preferred Education and Experience:
PhD in materials science, analytical chemistry, civil engineering, environmental health, or a related field
Experience in analytical, inorganic and clay chemistry
Previous publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Microscopy and performing rodent studies
Responsibilities:
Laboratory research - Independently design, plan, conduct and coordinate in vitro and in vivo experiments; evaluate, select, and apply appropriate research techniques. Keep detailed records of experiments and data. Interpret and report experimental results. Define problems and possible solutions.
Computational research - Use computers and appropriate software to perform image quantification, data analysis, statistical analysis, and technical evaluation of research experiments and results. Interpretation of data in the context of toxicology and risk. Molecular modeling. Collaborate with project participants (PI, other postdocs, graduate and undergraduate students) on analysis and interpretation of data. Assist in training less experienced lab members, undergraduate and graduate students in methods and approaches and lab techniques.
Reporting and manuscript preparation - Regular reporting on progress and results to PI and other project participants. Summarize results for inclusion in presentations, reports, and scientific publications. Present research results at national or international conferences and workshops. Conduct literature searches and summarize information in an appropriate format for a particular study. Manuscript writing, and grant writing.
Lab management and supervision of other lab personnel - Maintain financial accounts related to research projects. Manage lab supplies and organization. Place orders for chemicals and supplies. Manage, Install, operate and/or repair research equipment. Assist in training and supervision of less experienced lab members, undergraduate and graduate students in methods and approaches used in the research. Performs other duties as assigned.
