Senior Postdoctoral Associate

Required Qualifications: (as evidenced by an attached resume)
Doctoral Degree (or foreign equivalent) in Materials Science and Engineering or closely related field. Three years of research experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
PhD in Materials Science and Engineering. Experience in Thermal Spray Materials/Processes/Characterization/Modeling is preferred. Additional Experience in contact mechanics, tribology and corrosion especially of coated systems would be of interest. Demonstrated ability to conduct hands-on experimentation with thermal spray and associated characterization tools is preferred. Experience in working with industry is preferred to help support industrial testing projects at the Center.

Brief Description of Duties:
The Postdoctoral Associate will assist the Principal Investigator Dr Sanjay Sampath in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering . The incumbent will conduct research and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University.

  • Carry out independent and/or teach research in the field of Thermal Spray. Will design and develop the research experiments to achieve research goal.
  • Develop robotic programs for complex shape deposition in advanced coating projects
  • Analyze and evaluate data, utilizing specialized techniques.
  • Manuscript writing for publications in scientific journals. Oral presentation during lab meetings. May attend conferences and seminars.
  • Lab management, including oversight/supervision of Undergraduate and/or Graduate students, Research Technicians, or provide training in various research methods.
  • Lead and participate in laboratory safety management and organization.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
