Research Assistant

Saint Louis University, a Catholic, Jesuit institution dedicated to student learning, research, health care, and service is seeking applicants for a Postdoctoral Fellow position in the Department of Pharmacology and Physiology.

The Department of Pharmacology and Physiology in the School of Medicine is seeking applicants for a Research Assistant to work in the laboratory of Ian Mitchelle S. de Vera, Ph.D, focusing on orphan nuclear receptors research. Under general direction, the suitable candidate is expected to:

  • Assist investigators by performing moderately complex research and experimentation following established protocols;
  • Perform routine lab and equipment maintenance, such as cleaning glassware, counter tops, and equipment; sets-up and operate various scientific apparatus;
  • Assist with research projects and may perform independent research;
  • Perform various clerical and editorial duties;
  • Compile, process and analyze data;
  • Perform supervisory and training duties.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

We are seeking a highly motivated individual who is proficient in cloning, mutagenesis, protein expression and purification, and experimental/assay design. The ideal candidate should display a conceptual knowledge of the nuclear receptors field, an ability to efficiently communicate with others, a high degree of organizational and project management skills, and the ability to contribute to research development within the lab. Background in NMR spectroscopy and biophysical methods is preferred but not required. Candidates must display competency in computer programs including basic MS Office software, Evernote, PyMOL and GraphPad Prism.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors of Science in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or related field. Masters Degree preferred In addition to 1-2 years of performing cloning, mutagenesis, protein expression and purification, and biophysical assays/experiments.
