Summary:

The Duke Center for Artificial Intelligence in Radiology (DAIR) is seeking qualified candidates for a Project Planner I position.  DAIR explores and develops AI algorithms for use in interpreting medical images of various types, with the goal to see them through all the way to their use the clinic.   The team provides data collection, technical aspects of image acquisition, processing of data, development of deep learning algorithms, algorithm validation, and ultimately clinical implementation. The Project Planner I will collaborate with project teams, clients, and contractors to manage study operations and work plans, and support the DAIR Faculty with internal business operations. He/she will work in in a thriving research and clinical environment where he/she will be able to interact with scientists as well as with clinical and research faculty, postdoctoral associates, graduate students, and administrative staff.

The Project Planner I will be responsible for applying project management knowledge, technical and interpersonal skills and techniques to meet departmental goals.  Duties include, but are not limited to, management of medical datasets, oversight of key administrative functions related to research, curation of medical imaging and data, organization of the data in folders as well as on spreadsheets, summarizing data characteristics, management of access to the data across different team members, and data sharing. It will also include management of research projects and other administrative functions.

Work Performed (i.e. Duties):

  • Lead, coordinate, and perform a variety of complex independent and team activities involved in the collection, analysis, documentation and interpretation of health-related information. 
  • Responsible for management of medical datasets.  Evaluate and interpret collected data and prepare oral presentations or written reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions. 
  • Acquire, manage, and/or curate medical imaging and other data from medical records at Duke University Medical Center.
  • Streamline project and data management processes for DAIR ensuring timely, reproducible, and compliant data management and analysis.
  • Confer with principal investigator in developing plans for research projects and to discuss the interpretation of results and the preparation of manuscripts for publication.
  • Implement standard project management processes, tools and methodology by: Contributing to the maintenance of standard processes, and standard project templates, tools and guidelines to support the application of the standard project management methodology. Consistently applying standard project management methodology, processes, and tools to projects manages.
  • Project management and project team leadership: Draft project proposals, including pricing and schedules for medium to large projects.
  • Plan, lead, and facilitate regular cross-functional project team meetings. Develop detailed task lists and work effort assessment and short and long-term resource allocation plans based on input from all key players and team members (writers, editors, graphics, and production) and document these details using tools such as work breakdown structures or outlines.
  • Develop communication plans with the project team.  Proactively identify changes in work scope and ensure appropriate planning measures are taken with internal and external clients to reassess, renegotiate and amend scope of work responsibilities, proposals, contracts, and budgets.
  • Initiate, establish, and maintain business relationships with all key stakeholders of the project whether internal or external to the organization.
  • Travel, as needed, to attend client meetings or provide oversight and assistance for off-site projects e.g. continuing education programs or expert meetings between academics and the other industries (i.e. pharmaceutical companies, etc.).
  • Other duties: Assist in writing and editing materials such as monographs, slides, newsletters, national reports, and project website content.
  • Perform any other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree. Additional training in Project Management or related training is desired.

Experience

  • Two years of experience in project management, with increasing scope and independence or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.

Skills:

  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Highly organized with the ability to complete multiple tasks and deliverables within tight timeframes and during periods with competing priorities
  • Ability to work successfully and communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams (e.g., data managers, statisticians, and principal investigators)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
