The MPRC [Department of Psychiatry, University of Maryland School of Medicine) is actively recruiting an independent basic neuroscientist at the rank of Assistant Professor (non-tenure track). His/her research should focus primarily on the motivational role of dopamine in mental health disorders. Applicants should have expertise in the use of classic electrophysiological techniques, chemogenetics and optogenetics in rodents. The position will provide exciting opportunities to participate in a highly collaborative, interdisciplinary, and translational research environment designed to investigate dysfunctions in mental disorders using highly complementary experimental approaches. The new recruit will also be strongly encouraged to pursue innovative collaborative projects with members of the larger UMSOM research community. In addition, he/she will be expected to participate in the educational and service missions of the Department of Psychiatry and UMSOM.

The successful candidate will have a relevant record in basic neuroscience research. This should be reflected in a strong publication profile and strong potential for extramural funding. Applicants must have a PhD, MD or MD/PhD degree, and at least 3 years of postdoctoral training. Candidates from underrepresented groups and diverse backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.
