POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH SCIENTIST

Job Description


The Department of Anesthesiology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, seeks a Postdoctoral Research Scientist to investigate the mitochondrial mechanisms of propofol toxicity. Experiments involve wild-type and genetically modified mice using in vitro and ex-vivo Langendorff models. Proficiency in animal husbandry, tissue collection, mitochondrial isolation, enzyme activity assays, immunohistochemistry, western blotting, and light and fluorescence microscopy are required.

Ability to work with minimal guidance is expected. The desired candidate must be able to develop and learn new techniques as required for these studies as well as teach techniques to other members of the laboratory. Additional duties may be assigned as required by the PI.

Qualified applicants must be recent recipients of a PhD or MD awarded within the past three years. The University offers a competitive salary and an excellent benefits package. This position falls under a collective bargaining agreement.


Hiring Salary Range: $60,000–$65,000. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
