Possess an associate degree in a related public service or medical field of study. Possess an N.C.-recognized instructor certification or demonstrated commensurate training and development experience with the ability to obtain an instructor certification within one year of employment.
Work Experience
Minimum of four years of field experience in a public safety-related or educational field. Demonstrated ability to organize, develop and teach professional-level courses and strong organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Possess a bachelor’s degree in a related public service or medical field of study. Possess an N.C. -recognized instructor certification or demonstrated commensurate training and development experience with the ability to obtain an instructor certification within one year of employment.
Preferred Experience: Four years in a public safety-related field. Experience as a certified telecommunicator and certified telecommunicator instructor preferred.

Essential Functions
The Coordinator/Instructor for the Public Safety Academy manages the coordination, development, and instruction of both 9-1-1 and High School training programs within the Human Service & Public Safety Pathway.

Job Duties
1) Development, scheduling, and delivery of both commission and non-commission-based 911 training programs.
2) Obtain and maintain the status of N.C (North Carolina) Commission-approved School Director for the Telecommunicator Training Course. Ensure compliance of state-mandated instructor and student files as it applies to N.C. Sheriff’s Training and Standards.
3) Assist in developing and maintaining personal relationships with local 911 partners, public/charter high schools, and public service agencies in Durham and Orange Counties.
4) Coordinate, Develop, and Instruct Public Safety Academies for high school students that develop students’ knowledge and skills in public safety careers.
5) Organize and oversee career exploration internships/shadowing for high school students within the Public Safety Academy to build interest in the career field.
6) Works closely with Public Safety Program Directors to ensure proper instruction coverage for both 911 and Public Safety Academy courses.
7) In coordination with the Director of Public Safety Training, performs site visits and compliance checks of college processes and State mandated course requirements.
8) Coordinates with the Director of Public Safety Training in preparing a master course schedule, along with assisting with marketing and registration of courses.
9) Develop and teach (6 credit hours or 96 contact hours) courses in the Public Safety pathway related to criminal justice, fire services, emergency management, public administration, or emergency medical services.
10) Assume other appropriate responsibilities and perform additional tasks as assigned by the Dean or Chief Academic Officer in meeting the needs of the institution.

Required Working Hours
A minimum of a 40-hour work week as determined with the supervisor to allow the employee to fulfill the assigned duties and responsibilities, including occasional evening and weekend hours.Job Type
