The IDEA Center at the University of Notre Dame is looking for a Senior Director of Finance and Operations. This person will be part of the executive team and report directly to the Vice President and Associate Provost for Innovation. This position will engage in high performing, leading edge practices, valuing people, partners and stewardship. Currently, this position is hybrid. The Senior Finance and Operations Director will have the option of working two days a week from home and three days in the office.
What is the IDEA Center at the University of Notre Dame? Standing for Innovation, De-Risking and Enterprise Acceleration, the IDEA Center is the fundamental resource for all commercialization and entrepreneurial activities at the University of Notre Dame. It provides the necessary space, services and expertise for idea development, commercialization, business formation, prototyping, entrepreneurial education and student entrepreneurial efforts. It is designed to bring the best Notre Dame faculty, staff, student and community ideas and innovations to market. The IDEA Center is made up of six key areas, Commercialization Engine, McCloskey New Venture Competition, Innovation Park, Innovation Lab, Student Entrepreneurship and the Commercialization Engine Funding, which includes the ND Pit Road Venture Capital Fund.
Responsibility Summary:
The Senior Director of Finance and Operations is a key member of the executive leadership team of the IDEA Center (reporting to the Vice President and Associate Provost for Innovation) and serves as its chief financial and operations officer. Responsibilities include development of the annual budget, oversight of the budget and all financial matters for the center, administration of staff human resources including the performance management process, the administrative portion of faculty/staff hiring, serving as a liaison to various units and departments within the university, and general oversight of all operations within the IDEA Center. Position will be directly responsible for both short term and long term financial strategy to ensure sustainability and integration into the larger University financial model. The Senior Director will be responsible for coordinating and stewarding the relationship with the fund manager as it relates to financial activities around both the Pit Road Fund and 1842 Fund. Senior Director will be responsible for establishing metrics/levers and reporting on revenue and expense line items and activity within the IDEA Center.
- Works with the Vice President for Innovation and the Office of the Provost to develop a financial strategy to support the long term goals of the Center. Responsible for all financial activities at the Center including oversight and administration over all accounts, budget preparation, invoices, billings, accounting entries, tax inquiries, endowments, licensing/royalties and other intellectual property receivables as well as direct equity investments in start-up companies.
- In conjunction with the University Department of Finance, supports all financial activities involving the University’s position as the general partner and limited partner in the Notre Dame Pit Rd Fund. Works with University Controller’s Office and back office support to execute all financial statements, funding transfers, investments, tax materials, and reporting.
- With University Dept. of Human Resources, responsible for overall staff leadership/planning, performance management, staff recruiting and selection, coaching and culture, staff accountability, development and implementation of training systems, and enforcement of both federal and University HR policies across the Center.
- Oversight and management of the operations of the Center, including day-to-day activities at Innovation Park.
- Other duties as assigned

Bachelor’s degree
Preferred Qualifications
3 to 4 years experience in accounting. Experience in entrepreneurship, tax law, budget preparation and analysis helpful.
