Resilience Systems Engineer / Cyber Systems Engineer

Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab

Job Description

Description

Are you an "out-of-the-box systems thinker" who likes to come up with creative solutions to problems?

Are you passionate about addressing the asymmetric threat in the digital domain and applying appropriate technologies for future resilient military systems?

Do you love working with a diverse group of dedicated technical specialists in a collaborative teaming environment?

If so, we 're looking for someone like you to join our team at APL.

We are seeking a Cyber Systems Engineer interested in learning and incorporating resilient system engineering into military systems. In the Weapon Systems Engineering Group in the Force Projection Sector, we provide vital systems engineering and system development expertise to nationally important strategic deterrence capabilities for the Navy and Air Force.

As a member of our team, you will develop advanced engineering principles and approaches to influence the design of next generation weapon systems, assess ongoing system designs for mission resilience against advanced threats, and create and execute system analysis and assessment plans for strategic weapons systems development programs.

We are passionate about making critical contributions to these critically important programs, and you will be a key part of our success. With your help, we will remain at the forefront of weapon systems engineering for our Navy and Air Force sponsors.

As a Resilient System Engineer ...

  • Your primary responsibility will be to provide Cyber Systems Engineering expertise to the sustainment and recapitalization of U.S. Nuclear Triad and Strategic Deterrent Systems with emphasis on engineering resilient systems.
  • You will drive industry-leading strategy, planning, and concept development for innovative new weapon system solutions.
  • You will develop and execute systems engineering processes that incorporate mission resiliency against asymmetric threats into the design process.
  • You will perform applied research to understand the current analytic needs of sponsors and work with various teams and leadership to develop new capabilities to quantify, describe, and build robust systems capable of successfully performing the mission while operating in current and future contested environments.
  • You will provide systems engineering, analysis expertise, and thought leadership in strategic deterrence weapon systems development with respect to engineering systems for an asymmetric environment.
  • You will employ critical thinking to develop and analyze requirements, architecture, design, and fielded products for survivability in an asymmetric environment and impact to the performance of strategic deterrence weapon systems.
  • You will deliver formal presentations to sponsors and the engineering community and effectively communicate proposed concepts/solutions and analysis results.
  • You will produce documentation to capture concept definitions, requirements, analysis results, and technical recommendations.
  • You will create and contribute to digital engineering initiatives to accelerate integration of resilient engineering practices for our sponsors.
  • You will perform assessments of fielded systems and report on the findings.
  • You will work with dynamic teams comprised of experts in a variety of diverse backgrounds.

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Have a Bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, math, or other related technical discipline.
  • Have 5+ years of experience in the early concept development, requirements analysis, design, test and evaluation, and/or risk assessment of complex systems.
  • Have experience with system security engineering disciplines or engineering cyber resilient systems.
  • Have shown the ability to lead diverse, multidisciplinary teams, including industry and government sponsors.
  • Have demonstrated initiative, motivation, flexibility and interest in working in a team environment.
  • Have strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as strong critical thinking skills.
  • Are willing and able to travel periodically, including short duration visits to sponsor offices at the Washington Navy Yard and to supporting contractor sites, as well as occasional travel to other military bases across the country.
