Postdoctoral Research Scientist/Associate Research Scientist

Job Description


Two positions are available immediately for highly motivated candidates to join the Amundson Laboratory, which is part of the Center for Radiological Research (crr.columbia.edu) in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Irving Medical Center in Upper Manhattan.
Two major NIH-funded project areas are available. The first uses gene-expression-based approaches to understand and predict individual responses after exposures to radiation. The second project is focused on exciting approaches for curing hard-to-treat cancers using new types of particle radiotherapy. The projects involve collaborations with the unique facilities at Columbia’s Mouse Hospital (www.olivelab.org) and Columbia’s Radiological Research Accelerator Facility (www.raraf.org). This is an outstanding opportunity to work with investigators in leading radiation biology and pancreatic cancer laboratories.

Successful candidates must have experience in cellular and molecular biology and/or use of animal models, as well as excellent communication skills, and a high level of proficiency in radiation biology, RNA studies, pancreatic cancer studies, immunohistochemistry and/or ELISA.  

Minimum Qualifications
Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant
Requires a doctoral degree in chemistry, biology, physics or related science or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.  A minimum of 3 years postdoctoral research experience is also required for Associate Research Scientist postion.

Additional Position-Specific Minimum Qualifications 
Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant
Must have general knowledge of molecular and cellular biology and excellent communication skills including demonstrated publication record.

Preferred Qualifications
A background in radiation science, cancer biology, biodosimetry, and/or immunology with experience in molecular biology, cell culture and/or mouse models is strongly preferred.
