Job Title

Senior Academic Business Manager

Job Description

The University of Notre Dame strives to be the world’s leading global Catholic research university to the benefit of a country, church, and world in need. As follows, our provost, John McGreevy, challenges us to reflect on and address this primary question: What are the big ideas that will transform Notre Dame for the better over the next generation? Our answers will drive us to steward the University’s robust and diverse resources, including ourselves, to move forward faster in making this vision ever more real.
With this charge at the forefront, the Office of the Provost is searching for an exceptionally capable, leading-edge Senior Academic Business Manager to join the Academic Finance and Administration (AFA) team. The AFA team, led by the Associate Vice President for Academic Finance and Administration, oversees academic planning, budgeting, and financial management. Within the AFA team, The SABM has the strategic role of balancing the work of short- and long-range projections and financial analysis with essential transactional support. As a visible leader in this high-performance, high-impact office, the SABM is a model of collaboration, trustworthiness, and inclusivity. The SABM embraces all levels of faculty and staff to accomplish near and long-term objectives, coordinate business matters, and facilitate problem resolution.
Specific responsibilities include:
Financial Planning and Management:
  • Assist AVP with financial plan development of larger collegiate divisions.
  • Steward the financial commitments of the Provost’s Office by monitoring, managing and transferring funds.
  • Oversee a portfolio of financial plans for smaller academic units (~50M).
  • Represent the AVP on various committees and initiatives
Analysis and Insight:
  • Develop or validate projected start-up and ongoing costs for new initiatives, identifying cost-savings and efficiencies.
  • Provide financial analysis support to the AVP that identifies opportunities for direction and deployment of resources.
Essential Transaction Support:
  • Approve expense, payment, and job requests
  • Manage fund number requests and close-outs
  • Draft finance-related communication to units
You may be the right candidate for this position. Do you
  • Look for ways to use your financial “chops” to make a significant impact in a mission-driven organization?
  • Thrive on working in “the details” while also generating the financial insights held within the details?
  • Know strong and diverse partnerships are the best way to collaborate and find solutions.
  • Make processes, policies, and culture better by being present and involved?
  • Imagine yourself having a “bird’s eye view” at a top university?
  • Want to be part of a team that prioritizes your professional development?

If you answered “yes” to these questions and meet the minimum requirements listed below, consider applying today!
