Job Description

Big Bend Community College (BBCC), a rural college serving vibrant, culturally rich communities in the Columbia Basin of Central Washington invites applications for a Retention Coordinator in the college's Title V, Project HEART Grant.

The Retention Coordinator will work collaboratively with staff, advisors, and faculty to accomplish Title V HEART grant objectives and activities that promote student retention and completion for all Big Bend Community College students. This position is exempt from Civil Service and eligible for overtime.

Essential Job Duties

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Partner with Student Services and other departments on developing and implementing student retention and re-engagement initiatives.
  • Partner with staff, professional advisors, and faculty to design and implement a second-year advising model with an emphasis on completion coaching for both transfer and workforce education students.
  • Collaborate with the Title V Director to build and launch an online completion orientation.
  • Attend and assist with New Student Enrollment, transfer events, and campus-wide events.
  • Provide assistance with Early Alerts (Starfish) and other retention activities.
  • Lead the development and delivery of a bilingual digital literacy support model.
  • Coordinate with faculty and staff to provide bilingual support for selected courses.
  • Partner in the recruiting, hiring, and training of bilingual tutors.
  • Work with college staff to implement a student peer mentoring program.
  • Coordinate with the Communications Department to develop publications and promotional materials, both online/web-based, and flyers relevant to retention/completion activities.
  • Provide support for students transitioning from dual-enrollment programs (Running Start, CTE, CiHS) into regular, on-campus college classes.
  • Serve on college committees as assigned.
  • Other activities that support student retention, progression, and completion as assigned.

Minimum & Desirable Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • One year of experience providing direct services or support to students or clients.
  • Experience working with underserved populations.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite of programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous experience working in higher education, particularly in a community college.
  • Experience implementing student-focused change.
  • Previous experience with Starfish and ctcLink.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency.
  • Demonstrated bicultural experience.
