Open Postdoctoral position, faculty mentor Mark Musen

Stanford University

Job Description

Post-Doctoral Research Scientist—Semantic Modeling
The Stanford University Center for Biomedical Informatics Research is developing advanced technology with the long-term goal of radically enhancing the way that researchers approach their data and share their scientific results with other investigators.  Stanford is home to leaders in the areas of semantic technology and open science, and our vision is to develop and evaluate new technologies that will help investigators to search for relevant datasets online, to make sense of the data, to explore the data to confirm the claims of the original investigators, and to re-analyze the data to make new discoveries.  This work requires rich, symbolic models of data, of experiments, and of the ways in which experimental results may contribute to our knowledge of world.
We are seeking a post-doctoral research scientist for a two-year, renewal term, who is passionate about revolutionizing the research enterprise to help us in our mission.  We are particularly interested in applicants with experience in the use of languages such as OWL and other World Wide Web Consortium standards.  The post-doctoral scientist will collaborate closely with investigators in various scientific disciplines who are using our laboratory’s technology in their work and help to develop new models and new workflows in support of the scientific enterprise.  The post-doctoral scientist will help to build, evaluate, and deploy model-based software to enhance data stewardship and data communication, working in a dynamic interdisciplinary team of software engineers and scientific investigators.
