Postdoctoral Associate - Yin Liu Lab

Job Description

Summary:

The Liu (Yin) Lab at HHMI Janelia is interested in understanding the neural mechanisms that underlie the communications between the respiratory system and the nervous system. The lab uses mice as the model organism and combines single-cell analysis, genetic tools, activity imaging and recording, and whole-animal physiology approaches. We work collaboratively with experts in molecular tool development, microscopy, and computational biology at Janelia. As a member in the 4D Cellular Physiology research area, we expect to work closely with other groups in the area to develop innovative strategies and tackle the general principles of how body-brain communication maintains organisms. About the Role:

As a postdoc associate or research scientist, you will lead projects under the mentorship of Dr. Yin Liu on understanding the cellular and circuit mechanisms that underlie lung-brain communication in breathing regulation. This would be an excellent position for a scientifically minded professional who is interested in body physiology and body-brain interaction and would like to continue their career in academia or in industry in the future.

What We Provide:

  • Opportunities to work with and learn from world experts in neuroscience, cell biology, computational biology, molecular tool development, and microscopy at Janelia.

  • Close mentoring relationship with the lab head.

  • Career development workshops and mentoring groups to help preparing the next step in career

  • A competitive compensation package, with comprehensive health and welfare benefits.

  • Work with the lab head and collaborators on writing manuscripts for publication

What You Bring:

  • A Ph.D. in biology, neurosciences, molecular biology, genetics, genomics, or related disciplines

  • Experience with cellular and molecular biology, histology, and microscopy

  • Experience with neural recordings, animal surgeries, or other neural techniques, preferred but not required

  • Programming experience using R, Python, or MATLAB, preferred but not required

  • Strong initiative, self-motivation, and work ethic
