The Office of Student Services is part of the Academic Affairs unit and is dedicated to the recruitment, support, and development of students in our veterinary professional program. The addition of financial planning and literacy services complements existing programs in career counseling, wellness, business, diversity and inclusion, and communication to ensure that NC State CVM graduates are ready to take on all aspects of their future careers.

Essential Job Duties

The selected individual for the Director of Financial Wellness position will be responsible for establishing resources for personal financial planning and debt management. Services are expected to include curricular and para-curricular programs to educate students on basic financial literacy, student loan servicing and repayment options, and individual consultation services. The selected individual will work closely with the director of the business and practice management curriculum and the Director of Career Services to develop resources.

The selected individual will support the college’s veterinary students, graduate students and house officers (veterinarians participating in clinical training programs). Currently, the 4-year Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program is composed of 4 classes of 100-120 students each. The CVM currently employs approximately 100 house officers and 80 graduate students.

The Director of Financial Wellness position’s essential responsibilities will include:
  • Providing individual, confidential fiduciary financial planning for CVM students and house officers;
  • Assisting with the evaluation of salary and benefits packages associated with employment contracts of our students, graduate students, or house officers;
  • Provide financial literacy lectures in DVM curriculum;
  • Provide financial literacy lectures for CVM community;
  • Compile and interpret information on student loan information to Dean and Dean’s Cabinet;
  • Liaison with Foundations Unit and Scholarship Committee.

Other Responsibilities

Other duties as assigned to support the CVM and Student Services Unit.

Minimum Education and Experience

Post-baccalaureate credentials or a bachelor’s degree plus alternative or equivalent professional training and experience may be substituted for the advanced degree on an exceptional basis.

  • Strong presentation, interpersonal, networking, and organizational skills;
  • Ability to take initiative;
  • Ability to contribute in a team environment;
  • Strong coaching and mentoring skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five years’ experience in fiduciary financial planning with in-person consultations.
  • Bachelor of Science with advanced training in finance (e.g. Master’s Degree, Certified Financial Planner (CFP)).
  • Familiarity with student loan repayment and servicing, employment contracts, and retirement planning.
