Summary

Save the Children Action Network (“SCAN”) – a 501(c)(4) organization – is the political advocacy arm of Save the Children. We are building bipartisan support to make sure every child has a strong start in life. We’re doing this by advocating for high-quality early learning and ending child hunger in the U.S., the safety of children arriving at the southern U.S. border and educating and protecting kids around the world.

SCAN is seeking a Senior Advisor, Volunteer Leadership and Training. In this role, you will lead the design of a compressive volunteer leader program strategy and support training development and implementation across the Student Engagement, the Student Alumni, the Community Engagement, and the Family Engagement teams, and successfully manage a Lead Associate of Training. The ideal candidate will have background with volunteer management and extensive content expertise in learning practices and approaches for in-person and online platforms.

What You’ll Be Doing (Essential Duties)

Program Development and Design (40%)

  • Mange SCAN’s national Volunteer Leader Program, including provide growth and engagement strategy, design monitoring and evaluation plans, and provide oversight of related platforms, programing, communication and initiatives.
  • Collaborate closely with the Managing Director of Campaigns and Constituency Programs to design and launch a new virtual training in alignment of tiered strategic directions for every level of volunteer engagement across SCAN.
  • Develop a cohesive and holistic approach to training in collaboration with all SCAN teams and programs; ensuring an easy-to-use, well-organized, impactful approach is developed and maintained for all webinars, in-person trainings, national Advocacy Summits, and more.

Program Implementation (25%)

  • Lead the multi-day annual training for Volunteer Leaders Program.
  • Provide technical assistance on advocacy campaigns to Save the Children’s US Program partners
  • Serve in an advisory capacity to support implementation and delivery of trainings; work in collaboration with state and national staff to ensure high quality implementation, delivery, and ongoing support for programs and volunteers.
  • Lead ownership of departmental training, resources, and data within various platforms such as CollaborNation, Articulate 360 and EveryAction.
  • Manage onboarding process for volunteer leaders from application through trainings, including interviews, background checks, child safeguarding training, peer mentorship program, volunteer portal set up, 101 trainings.
  • Design evaluation planning, tools, data collection, reporting for the Volunteer Leader Program; monitor quality of implementation through various means including both quantitative and qualitative measurement.

Operational Excellence (35%)

  • Train, develop, coach, lead, and supervise the Lead Associate of Training, clearly communicating organization, division and department priorities, and how their work contributes to our mission, ensuring that the working environment continually fosters diversity, inclusion, and belonging – supporting organizations values.
  • Lead the planning, goal setting and budgeting process for the Volunteer Leader and Training Program, including tracking expenses for all state- and national-level events.
  • Prioritize cross-team collaboration across various team within SCAN and the agency, including USP, BTS, MCF, resource development.
  • Support the development and execution of communication and media strategies to increase program visibility through external communications, presentations and other related activity.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor Degree or equivalent experience, plus at least 7 years of relevant experience
  • Experience with instructional content development, especially advocacy content
  • Demonstrated understanding of, and ability to educate others on, the legislative and electoral process
  • Experience working with diverse groups of volunteers both in online and offline settings.
  • Professional proficiency in MS Office suite
  • Professional proficiency in spoken and written English
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with individuals and teams at all levels, both internally and externally
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering and maintaining and environment of diversity, inclusion, and belonging.
  • Ability to travel up to 10%

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working on state legislative or local campaigns.
  • Experience in campus and youth outreach and engagement campaigns.
  • Experience with oversight of consultants.

Compensation

Save the Children is offering the following salary ranges for this position, dependent on candidate location:

  • Geo 1 - NY Metro, DC, and other locations with labor costs significantly above national average: Target Salary for this position is $108,800 – $121,600 base salary
  • Geo 2 - Locations around the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $98,600 – $110,200 base salary
  • Geo 3 - Locations significantly below the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $88,400 – $98,800 base salary

Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, base salary of internal peers, business sector, and geographic location. Save the Children also offers paid vacation, accrued at least 12 days a year, depending on paygrade and length of service, paid safety and wellness leave of at least 1 day per month worked for a full time employee which is pro rata reduced for employees working less than a full time schedule, and at least 10 paid holidays a year. Employees may be eligible for additional bonus compensation.
