Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Associate Director for the Dean’s Office. Reporting to, and in consultation with the Director of SEED2S, the Associate Director (AD) is responsible for the daily operations of SEED2S programs. SEED2S (Student Excellence, Equity, and Diversity in Data Science) is an intellectual hub to support and promote inclusive inter-and multi-disciplinary excellence, timely completion of degree, and student diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in data science, intersecting with related disciplines, especially in the mathematical and physical sciences, for students from disadvantaged backgrounds and historically marginalized groups to help them thrive and achieve excellence, and upon graduation succeed in the ever-evolving workplace. The SEED2S operations include the planning, implementation, and evaluation of its programs.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Directly supervise SEED2S program coordinator, and in the absence of the Director, assume responsibilities for the programs.
  • Help recruit, manage, and train staff; will help with outreach efforts through various platforms of communication; and will represent SEED2S programs at various events and to relevant stakeholders.
  • Develop guided pathways from community colleges to the Rutgers – New Brunswick Data Science degree programs and will also help develop experiential learning opportunities for students.
  • In consultation with the Director, the AD will manage the annual budget for the program, prepare and submit relevant reports and assessments.
  • Manage SEED2S related facilities matters and provide administrative support to students, faculty, and staff.

Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2023. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, are subject to change or cancellation and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System. Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in STEM field with concurrent involvement in professional development training and experience in educational environment.
  • A minimum of five years of professional experience working collaboratively with faculty, students, and staff in a university setting, the safeguarding of confidential data, and design and implementation of science programs complementing undergraduate-level science curricula.
Certifications/Licenses
  • Use of personal vehicle in order to travel for business demands; a valid driver’s license would be required for this position.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent diplomatic, interpersonal, organizational, communication, writing, and presentation skills required.
  • Must be able to think strategically, manage complex organizational details, and negotiate successfully to resolve conflict.
  • Diligence, attention to detail, ability to meet deadlines and work in a team, computer literacy to include statistical database and analysis applications (Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel), willingness and the ability to become proficient in other required research and curriculum delivery applications is required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in Higher Education – STEM discipline.
  • Experience with the issues affecting the achievement of individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds and historically marginalized groups in the fields of data science, mathematics, computer science, engineering, and technology is highly preferred.
Equipment Utilized
  • Microsoft Office suite – Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, Expense Management, PeopleSoft Management, Financial Management (Oracle Cloud), a variety of SAS applications, and unit databases.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Travel to various Rutgers campuses, NJ high schools and community colleges, and occasional attendance at national profession conferences (e.g., NCWIT) for awareness and outreach activities and meetings.
